Use of Ethos in Imagine

John Lennon gained credibility as a part of the Beatles in the 1960s. Because of this, Lennon's fans were going to listen to any music he put out whether it was good or not. His loyal following learned to trust him and his messages through his time with the Beatles. When he left the band in the late 60s, he began to make music with messages that he personally believed more than the music he had made with the Beatles and capitalized off of his loyal following. When he released Imagine, people around the world took in his message because he was somebody they already looked up to.

  1. I like the idea of a picture that people will follow and believe in, but more than that, a figure that people will trust. Today we see many role models that people look up to and follow because they emerge as strong leaders or confident speakers.

A good example of a leader who has faithful followers is the President. Each term the people choose to follow one figure, whom they trust to make sound decisions. When a person is elected to become the president they carry with them a pre-existing sense of credibility. When candidates campaign and make arguments people believe what the candidates say. For example, Obama use the slogan "A change we can believe in." Through leading people, he carried his credibility through the election and into the White House with a group of devoted followers.

I think this idea of a following is applicable in multiple places and that it would be interesting to look at who else has emerged as a leader through the music realm as well.
