John Lennon's Audience

With Imagine, John Lennon was targeting an audience of not only hippies who shared his ideals, but also millions of Beatles fans who were ready to listen to what he had to say. During this time period, many people's ideals were changing and people began to rebel and have social movements. Lennon knew that he could use his fanbase as a way to communicate his message to a lot of people at once. People who were ready to listen to him heard the song for the first time and were deeply moved by his message.

  1. This is a great start, but I think you could go a little more in depth on who actually listens to John Lennon. You mention that he has a huge following, and you mention the spirit of the times, but who was specifically drawn to John Lennon? What's interesting about his audience to me is that, not only did he appeal to the "hippies," but he also had popular culture appeal which made his message more far reaching.

  2. I like how you recognized that not only do Beatles fans listen to this music but also hippies in this time period. I think you could have done more by explaining some of the hippie movement and what constitutes to a hippie. However, the execution was good.

  3. This is nicely done introduction; I agree with Jake, I think you could definitely go much more in depth about John Lennon and his type of music. You could try explaining how his music sounded, like if it was calm and rhythmic or loud and fast-paced. Adding in an example of lyrics within your post (not only on the side bar) and going into detail about his lyrics would greatly strengthen your post.

  4. The fact that there was already a level of familiarity with John Lennon, there was still much work to be done for his cause. As we learned in the beginning of the semester, it seemed as if there were more anti-war people than in reality. The song was powerful for Lennon fans and hippies but I feel like an example of how it spread to other groups too is needed.

  5. Your opening sentence is a bit wordy. Change first sentence to: John Lennon's "Imagine" targeted not only an audience of hippies who shared his ideals, but also millions of Beatles fans who were eagerly awaiting his messages through his music. I do not think that people necessarily "have social movements." Replace with "create social movements." In an earlier post on this blog ("Use of Ethos in Imagine") you stated that "Lennon's fans were going to listen to any music he put out whether it was good or not." The points that you brought up in that former post relate to this post as well. It would be good if you added one sentence or two to this post summarizing what you wrote about in that former post.

  6. I agree with the audience and the picture I think does a great job of showing how loyal Lennon's fans were to him
